Accudata Systems Celebrates 25th Anniversary with $53,000 Donation to M. D. Anderson Cancer CenterHOUSTON, TX, SEPTEMBER 15, 2007 -- Over 450 clients, business partners, and friends gathered at the Hilton Americas hotel in downtown Houston on Saturday evening, September 15th, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of Houston-based IT integrator, Accudata Systems. Accudata Systems was founded in July 1982 by Rich Johnson and Terry Dickson. As guests arrived for the combined anniversary celebration and cancer benefit, a fund raising slide presentation paid tribute to the guests' relatives and friends that were cancer victims or are cancer survivors. Introductory and welcoming remarks were given by Patrick Vardeman, Vice President of Business Development, followed by co-founder Rich Johnson, who provided a brief history of the founding of the company. Terry Dickson, himself a survivor of GIST sarcoma cancer, then recounted his experiences at the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center before introducing Dr. Jonathan Trent, M.D., Ph.D. as the featured speaker for the evening.
Dr. Trent, who is directing the treatment of Mr. Dickson, is one of the world's leading authorities on sarcoma cancers and an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Sarcoma Medical Oncology at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. The M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is currently ranked as the #1 cancer hospital in the United States by U.S. News & World Report, and it has been ranked as the #1 or #2 cancer hospital in the United States every year since the ranking was initiated 16 years ago. Dr. Trent gave an insightful and hopeful presentation about new research and the individualized treatment of sarcoma cancers, which affect more than 5,000 people in the U.S. each year. The highlight of the evening occurred when a check for $53,000 was presented to Dr. Trent and Ms. Lesley Icenogle of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center . The donation, which will go towards the research and treatment of sarcoma, prostate and colon cancer, was funded by both individual contributions and the generous donations of the 26 event sponsors that are industry and business partners of Accudata Systems.
